Clinical Quality and Patient Safety

Information for GPs and Clinicians

South Western Ambulance Service believes that the best care can be provided for patients if healthcare professionals have appropriate information to hand and can work together to provide seamless care. This guide describes how an ambulance may be called, distinguishing between ‘emergency’, ‘urgent’ and ‘non-urgent’ classification of ambulance calls. It also provides information on the training and skills of accident and emergency ambulance personnel. For your information a comprehensive guide to the equipment carried on emergency and other ambulances and an overview of the types of vehicles are included. Also described are routine transportation arrangements of non emergency patients via the Trust’s Patient Transport Services, escort arrangements and discharge from hospital. Every section is titled for your ease of use. We hope it will help you to get the best service from South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
